Another Zip. I don’t even know why Paycheck (imdb | rotten tomatoes) was on my ZipList; I must’ve heard it was ok, ’cause normally I wouldn’t make an effort to watch a Ben Affleck / Uma Thurman flick. However, it was directed by John Woo and based on a Philip K. Dick novel, so I thought. “maybe there’s something there, maybe it’s a hidden gem.”

Yeah. No. Not a hidden gem so much as a semi-precious stone obscured by a thick coating of mud. Like digging a chunk of amethyst out of the Bay of Fundy muck; it’s an interesting enough stone, but hardly remarkable for that area, and it’s sure as hell no emerald or diamond.

It occurs to me that I haven’t had the best luck with the zip movies recently. I blame it on a) my own occasional lapses in judgment, and b) the fact that zip keeps sending me the dregs of my list.
