And it feels so good.
I knew ripping all my CDs to my Nomad would put me back in touch with parts of my music collection that I’d just forgotten about (or never really gotten to), but even the act of ripping them — individually picking up each disc, glancing at the liner notes, reading all the track titles — prompted me to fire up a few specifically. For example, I’d forgotten just how good the Dandy Warhols‘ Dandys Rule OK disc is; ditto Guided By Voices‘ Isolation Drills, Down On The Upside by Soundgarden and Dark Was The Night by Blind Willie Johnson.
It’s been a good experience so far. I’d say I’m listening to more music now than I have in years. The two downsides: 1) my insta-ready mix of 6000 songs makes me less inclined to scan through all the MP3s and “pod”-casts in my download folder, or to tune into woxy; 2) being a good husband I also ripped all of my wife’s CDs onto the Nomad, including her large collection of Madonna, so occasionally I get ambushed by some track from Like A Virgin.
