Last night we celebrated GB’s 35th birthday. He and CB stoped by for a few drinks (where we handed him his gift: a copy of Freakonomics) before heading further downtown. Dinner was at Frisco’s Brasserie (or The Brasserie, or whatever it’s called now), a place none of us have been to in many years. Since then it’s undergone a name change, design change, menu changes, chef change, etc. Apart from a few service miscues (wine taking forever to arrive, my card disappearing for a while) it wasn’t bad. Better than Milestones, which I despise, though I seem to be in the minority there.
After dinner we went to Yuk Yuk’s. It was my first time there, and I was pleasantly surprised. 4 of the 5 comedians we saw (including the host) were really good (especially Ron Josol), and the other — Dan Dunn — was…well, weird, but at least he knew he was dying and kept making plane crash sounds to show us that he knew. There was this ridiculously drunk & annoying woman in the crowd named Mona, who works at the LCBO (and kept yelling it all throughout the show), that derailed the guys a few times, almost too many times to make me think she was a plant.
Anyway, on the way home around 1:00 my wife (aka, “one more drink girl”) invited everyone back to our place, so it was 2:00 before we got to sleep. I was pretty wiped after a 20-hour day, enough so that I didn’t wake up ’til 9.
And now…accounting.
