Tournament. Leaders. Plans.

Hoo ha. My new Elbow and Constantines discs just arrived, shortly after I finished listening to the new Death Cab cd. They’re all so very good.

You know, I never used to like DCFC but they’re growing on me…does this mean I’m going to start feeling compelled to watch The O.C.?

2+1

Two movies coming out tomorrow that I *really* want to see and another that I’m starting to warm up to. Both Good Night And Good Luck and Capote have been must-sees for me since I heard about them, and Saw 2 is looking like a good Hallowe’en movie. They have Rotten Tomatoes ratings of 96%, 94% and 52% respectively.

A couple of magazines have caught my eye lately. The latest issue of Esquire has a great piece called “Greetings from Idiot America,” which is like everything written at Americans Are Dumb but expanded and eloquent. You can get it at KeepMedia too (though you have to pay or sign up for a trial), or just go pick up the issue. Trust me, this article alone is worth the cover price.

Meanwhile, as I was in search of a caffeine burst earlier this week, I bought a copy of MacLeans simply because it has a picture of the Canadian-Tire-commercial-Bob-Vila-knockoff asshat next to the words, “The Age Of The Wuss.” Beautiful.

Architect Jack Diamond says that “We’ve got far too much green space in Toronto, far too many trees.” Wha?!? [via The Star]

Had my first doctor’s appointment today. What they say is true: I’ve found doctors are late 100% of the time. I need to get some blood work done, and I should have a stress test done just out of precaution, and I could stand to lose some weight, but she seems pretty certain there’s nothing wrong with the ticker.

So…anybody know an easy way to lose about 30 lbs? There’s, like, a pill or something I can take, yeah?

Canadiens win again. Michal Handzus now officially has the worst hair in the NHL. This picture doesn’t even do it justice. Picture Hurley on Lost. Anyway, Habs win in OT…7-2 on the year. I believe that puts them ahead of Ottawa for tops in the eastern conference, although they’ve played one more game than the Sens. Still…Yeesh.

I’ve been playing around with Konfabulator again. Same result as before…looks pretty, but just not that useful. Plus my poor ancient computer can’t handle all the tiny little memory pigs hovering around the desktop.

R.I.P., Rosa Parks.

Not-so-secret sauce.

OK, this here's just creepy

Today my Nomad randomly served up “N.I.B.” by Black Sabbath. It reminded me of a conversation I had with my friend’s brother back in high school. This guy played bass in our band and was a big Sabbath fan. As coincidence would have it, he’s now remodelling my mother’s kitchen. Anyway, I’d asked him what “N.I.B.” stood for. He didn’t know. Actually, I believe his exact answer was, “I dunno…Nib?”

This evening, when reading through my usual feeds, I find this item posted on Yes But No But Yes:

Who originally wrote Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Achy Breaky Heart?” What does N.I.B. mean? Who is Baba O’Riley? How am I supposed to live without you? Is the drug-outlaw character in “Kid Charlemagne” based on someone? Will anyone read the eight posts about Hanson’s “mmmBop?”

Ho. Lee. Crap.
