I weep for the present

  • Last night on The Amazing Race (the lone reality TV show I enjoy) the team that deserved to win didn’t, the princess won the million bucks, and poor Aaron had what I can only assume was a brain defect brought on by oxygen deprivation and proposed to the shrieking harpy.
  • The top ten movies this past weekend were as follows:
    1. Boogeyman
    2. The Wedding Date
    3. Are We There Yet?
    4. Hide and Seek
    5. Million Dollar Baby
    6. The Aviator
    7. Meet the Fockers
    8. Sideways
    9. Racing Stripes
    10. Coach Carter

    I shall say no more.

The whole Gomery inquiry just feels…I don’t know, unseemly. It smacks of desperation. A fuss was made over alleged overspending (The Canadian government wastes money? Good LORD!! Why wasn’t I informed!?!!?) because there was no other scandal to complain about, and political opponents (especially desperate parties like the Conservatives) feel they’re not doing their job unless they’re crying foul about some scandal or another. Rather than actually debate an issue, or implement their own policy, they search frantically for any sign of a mistake or inconsistency and attack that. See Clinton, Bill.

I am insanely jealous of my brother. His trip through France & Switzerland took them to Geneva, a city I’ve long wanted to visit. This was the view from their room.

And this is where he got to ski.

I’m jealous, and I don’t even like to ski. Dag.

Tonight was Bymark, my second [season]licious trip. However, both times I’ve upgraded way off the *licious menu and gone for the infamous burger. Well worth it. We went with T-Bone and Jen #3, and easily got home in time to watch 24, do some reading and relax. There’s something to be said for the 5:30 seating.

The Strip House: maybe the best [season]licious meal yet? Good salad, great steak, amazing volcanic chocolate dessert thingy. All in all, pretty sweet meal.

One strange point: we were pretty much the only people in the restaurant the whole night who weren’t Chinese.

Let’s see…

I got home yesterday around 1 PM, and felt like a vegetable for the rest of the day. That course kinda wiped me out. However, it didn’t wipe me out so much that we couldn’t go to the Rose & Crown with G&C. I could only manage one beer (and don’t even remember what it was), but the jambalaya nearly burned my mouth out. I basically croaked, “…water…” at the waitress, and when she brought them I swore my undying love for her. Or something like that.

Today we both realized that a) we don’t clean enough, b) the cats are slowly destroying the apartment, and c) the combination of those two things is causing us health problems. We’re always stuffed up, and the place just smells like…well, cat. All the time. So today we bought ourselves a kickass little vacuum cleaner, a small air purifier, a lint roller refill and some arm & hammer pet-vs-carpet stuff. Oh, and a pasta maker. It was an exciting day, truly. We’ve been cleaning like idiots (more Nellie than me; I’m still trying to catch up on my reading & blogging duties), and our hope is that we can just relax on the couch and watch an episode or two of our new Oz DVDs.

Yesterday and today felt like spring days, not early February days. The downside: both days saw smog alerts announced for southeastern Ontario. Seriously. Smog days, in the middle of winter. Shouldn’t that tell us something?

Tomorrow evening we have dinner at The Strip House with T-Bone. Poetic, no? Anyway, I’ll miss the Superbowl, but that’s never upset me much. I’m sure I’ll hear about whatever happens.

More catching up

I returned yesterday to find new goodies (some of which had been kindly collected by T-Bone):

  • The Hidden Cameras . Mississauga Goddam
  • Magneta Lane . The Constant Lover
  • Low . The Great Destroyer
  • Oz: Season 4
  • Troy
  • Shaun Of The Dead

I also have 3 Zip movies to watch (Dog Day Afternoon, Falling Angels, Nowhere In Africa), a whole week of The Daily Show and Shake Hands With The Devil, not to mention 3 magazines (Esquire, Spin, Vanity Fair), today’s Star, Eye and Now. Yeesh.
