It’s been almost a month since Canada officially legalized gay marriage. And guess what, kids? No fire. No brimstone. Nobody asking to marry goats. God didn’t spew down wrath on the sinners. The Catholic Church didn’t take their ball and go home.

Nobody cared. Even Ralph Klein shut up about it. Fred Phelps didn’t even visit, for chrissakes, he was too busy protesting at the funerals of dead soldiers.

Yawn. Non-issue. Go back to your drinks.

Back in July I wrote that the London police were most likely justified in shooting Jean Charles de Menezes (though I questioned the need for so many shots), given the information we had at the time. Now it seems I spoke too soon; so much evidence contradicting early reports given by the police would suggest that there was little, if any, justification for shooting him:

  • he wasn’t wearing a padded jacket
  • he had no wires protruding from his clothing
  • he didn’t jump the ticket barrier
  • he probably only ran to catch his train, not to flee the plain clothes officers
  • he was sitting down when he was shot

Oy. Whatever you do, don’t get the ginger beef at The Pilot. My stomach has been staging a wildcat strike since about 3 this afternoon.

Speaking of turning my stomach, I’m nearly finished my MSD assignment. Two more nights of work, some finishing touches over the weekend and I’m done with it. The I can get started on the final assignment and submit it by the 29th…just in time to pick up my film festival package and get pickin’. A breather before the festival begins, then a week away on the course intensive; I’m back in time for a few more films and a visit from my brother and his family. So yeah, I’m pretty much booked until the end of September.

Jaysus. Over the weekend I realized that my computer hasn’t been patching itself in months. Turns out I got a little zealous with the firewall and was blocking the service that does the windows updates. I didn’t even have SP2! I just forgot to check it all out after I rebuilt it back in the spring; I told it to keep itself updates and forgot about it. Stupid, stupid Dan.

What're the odds?

Uh, about 5 in 7,422 I guess…

Just five songs after my Nomad played Bob Dylan‘s “When The Ship Comes In”, it spun up The Chieftains‘ cover from the 40th anniversary tribute concert in New York.

Then they’ll raise their hands,
Sayin’ we’ll meet all your demands,
But we’ll shout from the bow your days are numbered.
And like Pharaoh’s tribe,
They’ll be drownded in the tide,
And like Goliath, they’ll be conquered.
