Jeff Jarvis nails the hypocrisy of the Terri Schiavo situation. Here’s an intensely personal situation that the government has elbowed its way into, for no reason beyond selfish politics. And he’s right; her name will be associated with abortion by saintly patrician overseers, not one of whom will invoke her memory in defense of an unjustly sentenced inmate on death row.

Worse yet, most Americans seem to disagree with what the government is doing. According to a recent ABC/WaPo poll, 87% of Americans wouldn’t want to be kept alive in that condition, and 65% believe that, in Schiavo’s specific case, the spouse should have the final word.

OK. Well. After an amazing double-overtime game Wake Forest got knocked out of the tournament…bad news for me since I had them in the finals, but worse news for Nellie as she had them winning the whole thing. I figure the best I can do is to win second (I’m currently 28th out of 30); North Carolina would have to win and I’d have to be about 100% on all my remaining games. So I’m not holding my breath.

Where the #@&% is spring? It’s -5 outside with the wind chill! Argh. Anyway, I’m buoyed by the happiness I find by watching 32 basketball games in 2 days, even if ‘Cuse and Kansas did lose to Vermont and Bucknell respectively.

We had dinner at the Bedford Academy last night with G&C. I haven’t been there in ages…strange, since I used to visit pretty much every week. Anyway, we hung out back here for a bit before C got tired and they headed home. This morning was a frustrating trek in search of a salad at Whole Foods. Somehow that took me to Summerhill for some ginger loaf and ended up with us getting A&W burgers. I’m still not entirely sure how it happened.

Accounting assignment’s done and we have a four-day week comin’ up. Now if it would just get WARM…

“You can find that book everywhere and the risk is that many people who read it believe that those fairy tales are real,” he said. “I think I have the responsibility to clear things up to unmask the cheap lies contained in books like that.”

That was Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone talking about the Bible The Da Vinci Code.
