They shouldn’t have published pictures like that.
In Islam we’re not even allowed to draw pictures of the Prophet peace be upon him.
We dont draw pictures of Jesus or Moses, we respect all the prophets.
We love our prophet peace be upon him.
You’re right, they shouldn’t have published pictures like that. But armed mobs looking to kidnap people in retaliation? That’s an overreaction.
I’m with Dan on this one. I’m Muslim myself, and while I understand and agree that they shouldn’t have posted those pictures, I also have to say that the Muslim community’s response was a huge over-reaction. Posting the cartoon was wrong because it’s wrong to make fun of any religion. Religious beliefs are beliefs that people hold dear. Yes, the Muslim faith has strict rules around pictures depicting any prophets, but these were not Muslims drawing the pictures. Their disrespect was no different than it would have been had they made fun of Jesus or Moses or anyone else. It wasn’t as if they said “let’s draw a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad, since Muslims don’t believe in pictures/drawings depicting any of the holy figures of their faith”. Their disrespect was more along the lines of “let’s be disrespectful and poke fun at a religion that the world has come to criticize. Still wrong, but wrong in a different way.
The reaction was insane- ‘let’s find innocent people and kidnap them in retaliation’- come on- where in the Islamic faith (or any other) does it permit you to harm innocent people in retaliation? The Muslim religion is supposed to be a peace loving one, and idiots like these who overreact exacerbate the problem for the rest of us.
The extremists in the Muslim community need to get off their high horses and stop with the ridiculous power trips…it’s not serving any of us, and it makes us all look like terrorists.
