Clearly my timing is off

Just in time for the warm weather coming this week, I have a cold. Scratchy throat, sinus headaches, lethargy…yay.

.:.

We finally watched Borat (imdb | rotten tomatoes) last night. Yeah, it was funny, but we obviously waited too long to see it since I’m pretty sure I already knew every funny bit in the film. Although, simply knowing that you’ll see Ken Davitian naked in full flight does not prepare you for the sight of it.

Paging languor

So much for finding a little downtime. Work has been teh nuttiness for the past couple of weeks, I have a paper due Tuesday that I haven’t even started yet and the condo to-do list grows faster than I can knock it down.

Today wasn’t so bad though; despite being at work for 11 hours I had lots of energy when I got home, and I think it’s because of the concert last night. Music is my meditation.

Lather. Snort. Repeat.

My shampoo is tingly. Really, really tingly, almost to the point of burning or poison ivy or something. Anyway, I’m sure it’s meant to be good for my scalp or my hair or both, so I don’t mind the tingliness. However, today, I somehow took breath in just as a big blob of it was running down my face and happened to be just in front of my left nostril, so a bunch of this tingly-ass shampoo shot up my nose.

This, I don’t mind telling you, was not how I planned to spend my nice hot relaxing shower. Now I had to do something, but I also had a bunch more frothing shampoo about to run in to my eyes, so even as my sinuses were disintegrating in the face of this new terror I had to calmly rinse the rest of it from my hair, all while blowing all the air out my nose that I could manage. I wasn’t really thinking about how stupid I must have sounded; instead, all I could think was that maybe I should give baths another try.

Anyway, I didn’t care what the bottle said, I was not going to repeat.

Last night was the first chance we’ve had in ages to just sit and watch some TV. Actually, to be clear, we didn’t watch TV, but rather watched a few episodes of The Sopranos on the laptop. We’re trying to catch up for the final episode; there’s no way we’ll be able to avoid hearing about the series finale.

.:.

So, we knew it was inevitable that we’d eventually lose some of our view, but we didn’t think it would happen so soon. I suppose those buildings — at the foot of Yonge Street, just west of the Redpath sugar factory — won’t be built for a while, and it’s only a small chunk of our view, but it’s one of the best views we have of the islands. Perhaps, both for the sake of our view and the good of the waterfront, city council will find a way to stop the development and put a park there.

The replacements

I am now the proud owner of a Creative Zen Vision:M, the black 60GB model. However, I won’t have a chance to play with it tonight (!) as I’m busy taking care of other shit. I have to get up very early tomorrow for a flight to Montreal. I’ll return too late tomorrow night to play with it then either. Dan == sad.

I also got a replacement Roomba; no word on whether it’s intact or if I’ll have to return it as well. On top of that we got a replacement bathtub today. It’s a day of substitutions.

One host serving music, another serving veggie burgers

Another busy day: we read newspapers, got a snack at Starbucks, went back to Canadian Tire to pick up a Roomba (which, upon opening, we found had already been used and was all scratched up and dirty…so that’ll be going back) and some other condo-y stuff, cleaned up, finally cleaned out my suitcase from last week, did some laundry, did some work, put together the other desk in the den and crossed a bunch of stuff of the to-do list.

.:.

Last night we went over to CBGB’s place, where GB cooked up some of his famous veggie burgers. These are the type that aren’t trying to simulate meat, but rather have a flavour all their own and just happen to sit between a bun. They were spicy and thick and I had three of them. Yum.

.:.

I just ordered one of these. I’m very excited. Not only does it do pictures & video and give me more room for music, but it also has a USB host feature, so I can download pictures to it directly from our camera without having to carry a laptop around or buy a gigantic memory card.

Really, we just want one to annoy the cats

The condo is looking ever-more lived in. We have a shower rod & curtain in the master bathroom, and bought some new towels to replace the old ones which were sacrificed to stem the shit tide. We went to Canadian Tire in the hopes of buying several things, but got so frustrated that we forgot to pick up the Roomba.

I’ve also set up half of the desk (we’re making two small desks rather than one large one) in the den and am typing this on my computer. Not that Nellie’s laptop isn’t nice, but I’ve missed my full-size monitor, real mouse and real keyboard. Welcome back, baby.

.:.

In a few minutes we’ll be off to CBGB’s place for a bbq. We don’t have our own yet; it’s near the top of the list, but I feel like we need to get all the boxes out of the way first.

Down swingin'

It was a great game last night, but the Raptors lost to the Nets, and fell out of the playoffs. The Raptors played about as well as they could, on the road in an arena they haven’t won in all year, with two busted-up point guards, but in the end came up just short. And I mean that literally; if Jose Calderon had gotten his entry pass to Bosh just six inches higher, Bosh would’ve had an uncontested dunk to win the game. Alas, ’twas not to be. At least there was no sense than Vince Carter knocked the Raptors out of the playoffs; apart from a few hard drives to the rack in the 4th quarter, Carter was pretty much an empty shirt.

.:.

I woke up early this morning (or rather, was woken up by furry beasties) so I saw the sunrise. I’m still getting used to how amazing it looks in the morning; we have an unobstructed view (for now) to the east, so it’s a pretty pleasant way to wake up.

.:.

We’re gonna go have some breakfast, run a few errands before coming home to do some more unpacking & setting up. It’s nice to be able to do that stuff, after a pretty crazy month.

Aaaaaand Sonny almost knocked the TV over just now when he attacked an in-flight golf ball that he saw on Sportscentre. I guess that could be an advertisement for Sharp.

"This day is bananas, b-a-n-a-n-a-s"

If you watched The Office last night that title will make a lot more sense. And if you watched 30 Rock, you might’ve heard Tina Fey yell “I will slice you open like a taun-taun!” And then you might’ve heard me yowl with laughter.

.:.

Another day, another bunch of boxes unpacked. The books are now taken care of, and the kitchen is close to done. Next thing is to set up the TV and stereo before I leave Sunday morning, and get the empty boxes collapsed and taken out. Also have to get to Dove Cleaners; I’ve got a stain on a suit jacket that looks as if I’ve been lactating. Nobody wants that visual.

.:.

Choosing between #1 and #1a is hard. And when you love them both, having to choose at all sucks. Sorry that’s cryptic, but it concerns stuff I don’t usually talk about here. It was gut-wrenching, but I guess there are worse problems than having to choose between the two best options I’ve ever had.

Is April over yet?

The tiredness isn’t going away. Had a pretty hectic day, and tomorrow looks to be about the same as I get ready to leave for a week. Took a break tonight to eat some dinner (pizza…I skipped lunch and we got home late, so it was the best…pizza…ever!), watch The Office and 30 Rock, and unpack the DVDs. Tomorrow’ll be another late one but I hope to get lots more unpacking done while I watch the Raptors game.

That cat better shut up tonight or he’ll be getting a shoe in the head.
