Complainy | Because it’s fun to complain.
I am having way too much fun with this. Possibly my favourite thing is that each item in the RSS feed is labeled “bitch #1,” “bitch #2” and so on. I even got to throw up a meta-bitch: their RSS feed had a spelling error, so I complainy-d about it.

Esquire has a new column called “What the hell is wrong with people.” Based on the first entry (that I’ve seen, anyway) I think I’m going to like it. A lot.

Via OpenCulture I found this site called BigThink. Looks like lots of interesting podcasts.
Speaking of podcasts, I feel like I should be taking advantage of more. I spend 15 or 20 minutes each day listening to random music on my Zen on my way to work, and I could be using that time to, I don’t know, learn French or investigate Utilitarianism or something.

I upgraded this blog to WordPress 2.5 last night. While it doesn’t change the appearance to you, Joe Internet, the admin looks awfully spiffy. One little problem though: a lot of stuff doesn’t work. I can’t add URLs, for example; none of the pop-ups work. Good thing I know HTML, otherwise it’d be a little tricky to post.

I picked up our Hot Docs tickets today. After our abridged outing last year we got a full slate (five films) this time around:
- Air India 182
- The Last Continent
- Dance With A Serial Killer
- Stranded, I’ve Come From A Plane That Crashed In The Mountains
- Hold Me Tight, Let Me Go
So, to recap: terrorism, bleak antarctic landscapes, serial killing, a plane crash & ensuing cannibalism, and we wrap up with violently dysfunctional children. It’s the feel-good film festival of the year!

Today my Google News page showed me something odd. It was an eCanadaNow (whatever that is) story about internet stalkers, but it was the picture that caught my eye. Here’s a screen grab:
Ummm…unless I’m mistaken, that’s Ellen Page in Hard Candy (imdb). And yes, in that film, Page does play someone who’s stalked online, but…well, clearly the real-life scenario does not play out like the film. Also, why wouldn’t this site indicate that they’d lifted a scene from a fictional film to use in their news story? Weird.

Last week The Onion did a brilliant piece making fun of Marmaduke (my favourite line was “Today, almost six decades later, this plucky octogenarian continues his tireless work, bringing laughter and joy to millions of readers long since dead of old age.”) which I sent to a co-worker. This prompted a discussion of other comic strips long overdue for death. He sent me a link to the King Features site and pointed out that most of the offending strips live there.
Honestly, I’m baffled. People still read Beetle Bailey? Blondie? Dennis The Menace? Hi And Lois? Mary Worth? Rex Morgan M.D.? Sweet tubercular Moses, The Family Circus!?! Were these ever considered funny? Granted, they’re all 48+ years old (Blondie being the oldest, having started in 1930) and taste in humour certainly changes over the years, but that raises the question: how many fans of these strips can possibly still be alive?

Those of you who know her should check out Nellie’s new blog. It’s the same address as her old blog, but she’s switched topics. Photography is her latest interest, which I’m all for ’cause I think she’s got some real talent. She’s taking a class to help her learn some technique, and she has a shmancy new camera from which I keep expecting to hear a HAL9000 voice. This helicopter’s been hovering around just to the east of my building for most of the morning. Not sure what’s going on. Nellie says that if we see guys with rifles start sliding down any ziplines, we’re locking the door.

I have to fly to Montreal tomorrow, and back Tuesday night. It’ll be my first time flying off the island airport with Porter Air, so I’m looking forward to it. Actually, what I’m looking forward to is to not have to go all the way out to Pearson.
If it’s as good an experience as I’ve heard, I can see us using them for flights to New York, Montreal and even Halifax.

I got home around 8:30 tonight and am rather wiped, so blogging tonight will be terse.
- I ate two fortune cookies today (Kung Hey Fat Choi!) and the fortunes inside read “A sweet surprise awaits you” and “Goods that are not shared are not goods.” You know what though? Those lines never worked on the girls in my high school, so I don’t know why I should put any faith in them now.
- I wish I liked The Weakerthans‘ music as much as I liked John Samson’s lyrics.
- Caitlin: still hot. Stacie Mistysyn: girlfriend du jour.
- The Onion always make me laugh, but sometimes it’s so brilliantly absurd that I can only marvel and wonder where they buy their wonderful drugs. Today’s article “Ask The Stage Directions To Tennessee Williams’ Cat On A Hot Tin Roof” may set the bar at an all-time high.
- It’s fully fucking snowtastic out there tonight. It’s been windy and blizzard-y all day, and there was more thundersnow earlier tonight. My walk home tonight, though only a few minutes from subway to lobby, was about seven different kinds of unpleasant. I’m ready for spring now.
