From Yahoo: ‘Outfoxed’ Film to Appear in Theaters

NEW YORK – “Outfoxed” will be in theaters beginning Friday, after weeks of being available only on the Internet.

The documentary, which portrays Fox News Channel as far from its motto of “fair and balanced,” opens Friday in one art-house theater in each of four cities: New York, Los Angeles, Washington and San Francisco. Then it will expand to other cities in upcoming weeks, distributor Cinema Libre Studios said Tuesday.

The film — the full title of which is “Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism” — is composed of clips compiled during weeks of round-the-clock taping of the network. Director Robert Greenwald is trying to demonstrate what he believes is a pattern of right-wing bias and support for the Republican agenda.

Until now, the liberal political groups MoveOn.Org and the Center for American Progress have organized thousands of “house parties” for people to watch the film together. “Outfoxed” is also the second-highest selling DVD on Amazon.com.

Another documentary, “Bush’s Brain” — which portrays political adviser Karl Rove as the true brains behind President Bush (news – web sites)’s administration — also will be released this month in theaters.

The film by Joseph Mealey and Michael Paradies Shoob, based on the book of the same name by Texas journalists Jim Moore and Wayne Slater, is scheduled to open Aug. 27 in New York and Los Angeles and expand to more cities in September.

It premiered in March at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas, where Bush served as governor.

Owie owie owie ow. Went for a run with T-Bone Sunday morning, down by the lake. I don’t know why I didn’t think to put on sunscreen — especially since the UV index was through the roof — but about an hour into the run the left sides of my face & neck were charbroiled. I had to switch to the other side to even it out. It hasn’t hurt too much until now, as the collar on my shirt keeps digging into the most painful spot.

It’s probably not a good idea to violently rip the tag out of an Armani shirt, but I’m giving it a think.

Roughly 50,000 Torontonians filled the Skydome last night to watch AS Roma take on Glasgow Celtic. Having such a huge Italian population I expected the Celtic fans (of which I am one, I suppose, having no geographical affiliation or reason to follow any club save my vague connections to people who are fans) to be badly outnumbered, but those wearing green & white were only slightly outnumbered by the burgundy jerseys and blue Italian colours. And what the Celtic fans might’ve lacked in numbers they made up for in drunkenness. Some old bald guy yelling, “We are the Celtic! We are the Celtic! We are…”, walking down Front Street, picked Nellie up and moved her out of the way so that his path wouldn’t be impeded nor his yelling interrupted.

It took us a while to find our seats, which were in the upper troposphere. It was a mostly neutral section, with Celtic fans behind us (it was the only row behind us) and 8 Italian kids in front of us. Except for the one who looked like Pacey from Dawson’s Creek they all had exactly the same hair and clothes. They were…annoying. So were the drunk Scots behind us, but at least they were entertaining.

So, the game: had I watched it on TV I probably wouldn’t have called it a great game (some of the better Celtic players sat out, and it was a bit sloppy in general. But, it was so much better to watch the whole game take place. Unlike basketball, where you can see all 10 of the players on the screen 95% of the time, football pitches are so large that you only see a portion of the players. This let me see the whole game, how it flowed, and just how fast the players are. In the end Roma beat Celtic 1-0, but Celtic could easily have tied or even won it. Roma slacked off badly after they scored, and Celtic pressed hard near the end of each half, both times just missing easy put-ins. Ah well, it meant little, but it was an experience for a city that rarely gets them on a real live pitch before our eyes. And now I have another historic, yet tragic team to root for. C’mon The Hoops!!

Another long weekend, thank Yahweh. It got started with some low-key birthday celebrations (my wife made me breakfast in bed, T-bone bought me some chocolates from JS Bonbons, Duarte took a guess that it was my birthday and bought me the new Thee Silver Mountain Reveries (aka A Silver Mt. Zion disc, then T-bone and Stanzi bought me lunch), then geared up somewhat. We didn’t do anything too big, which is just how I like my birthdays. T-bone and I hit the Duke of York for drinks, then met Stanzi and the wife for dinner at Fieramosca. Manoman, they spoil us there. By the time we left we were stuffed with bread, pasta, wine and limoncello, so the walk back to our place was painful and a little crooked. 3 more friends joined us; a few drinks and some cake (made by my lovely wife) later, we left for the theatre to watch The Village. Anyway, right after that 2 of our friends came back to our place for some scotch (using the monstrous new old fashioned glasses ze wife got me) before they caught the subway home. Happy birthday to me!

Today looks to be pretty laid back – it’s grey & rainy, and we have 3 Zip movies to watch – before we go to the Celtic/Roma match at Skydome tonight. Then we have two days to do whatever the frig we want!

We went to see The Village (imdb | rotten tomatoes) last night. My expectations were lowered because of the ratings the movie’d been getting. Sadly, my lowered expectations were met. This was definitely my least favourite of M. Night Shyamalan’s work. Too dopey to get into detail now (just woke up from a nap; on the rare occasions when I nap during the day it usually takes me an hour or two to become sensible again), but suffice it to say I was disappointed.

During the Simpsons panel at San Diego’s Comic Con International, executive producer and longtime Simpsons contributor Al Jean announced the news that many fans have been waiting for: “There will be a movie,” putting enough “English” on the word “will” to leave no doubt among the faithful that they will be able to see the yellow-hued denizens of Springfield on the big screen. Jean did not provide a release date, saying only that the show’s producers were taking the time to get it right.

This confirms earlier rumors that work on the movie had begun (see “Simpsons Movie in 2006?“).

Why, why, WHY does every Jerry Bruckheimer movie have to be exactly the same? Worse yet, why do I keep paying money to see them?!!?!
