- Can somebody tell me why “the teenager was a loner who usually wore black” is a relevant piece of information in the Minnesota school shooting story? If I hear the term “trenchcoat mafia”, or that he liked to play violent video games, I’ll freak out.
- Can somebody tell me why we should give a single solitary fuck about Camilla what’s-her-pickle becoming the Queen?
- I have a lot more to say about Terri Schiavo, just like everybody else in the world. When I have time, and have calmed down somewhat, I’ll spout it out just to lower my blood pressure.
Good. Bad. Ugly.
Very, very good: my new albums by Mogwai, Black Mountain and The Heartless Bastards.
Very, very bad: Starship Troopers 2.
Very, very creepy: Triumph Of The Will. Obviously, the subject matter is abhorrent. But the technical skill Leni Reifenstahl had, considering it was the mid-1930s, was stunning. I find it’s serving two purposes: 1) to remind me that the German citizens, while not Nazis, were still capable of supporting and allowing that party to fulfill its plans; 2) that governments are more than adept at sponsoring & creating propaganda to get the masses on their side, no matter how repugnant the goals.

Jeff Jarvis nails the hypocrisy of the Terri Schiavo situation. Here’s an intensely personal situation that the government has elbowed its way into, for no reason beyond selfish politics. And he’s right; her name will be associated with abortion by saintly patrician overseers, not one of whom will invoke her memory in defense of an unjustly sentenced inmate on death row.
Worse yet, most Americans seem to disagree with what the government is doing. According to a recent ABC/WaPo poll, 87% of Americans wouldn’t want to be kept alive in that condition, and 65% believe that, in Schiavo’s specific case, the spouse should have the final word.
Und now…vee vait.
We just finished season 2 of The Wire. I love HBO’s shows, but I hate their DVD release policy. I can only assume that it’ll be at least another year before season 3 comes out.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Laura Polischuik, who appears to be completely detached from reality.

OK. Well. After an amazing double-overtime game Wake Forest got knocked out of the tournament…bad news for me since I had them in the finals, but worse news for Nellie as she had them winning the whole thing. I figure the best I can do is to win second (I’m currently 28th out of 30); North Carolina would have to win and I’d have to be about 100% on all my remaining games. So I’m not holding my breath.

Where the #@&% is spring? It’s -5 outside with the wind chill! Argh. Anyway, I’m buoyed by the happiness I find by watching 32 basketball games in 2 days, even if ‘Cuse and Kansas did lose to Vermont and Bucknell respectively.
We had dinner at the Bedford Academy last night with G&C. I haven’t been there in ages…strange, since I used to visit pretty much every week. Anyway, we hung out back here for a bit before C got tired and they headed home. This morning was a frustrating trek in search of a salad at Whole Foods. Somehow that took me to Summerhill for some ginger loaf and ended up with us getting A&W burgers. I’m still not entirely sure how it happened.
Accounting assignment’s done and we have a four-day week comin’ up. Now if it would just get WARM…

Interesting. Both the TTC and Toronto Police are now selling lost/recovered items through eBay.
Where's a 2×4 when you need one?
Ever think you want to rent a movie, and add it to your list, and then you watch it and you think…what the jeezus was I thinking?
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Walking Tall (imdb | rotten tomatoes).
